Dear Mr. Weinstein,
During my childhood, I was always interested in the history of our country and the prominent people that shaped the country we live in today. In one of your lessons, we were going around the room asking who it was in our own life has impacted you in a way that you changed? Essentially, someone who has had a meaningful impact on my life that has helped me continue forward and set my own goals in life. I had first thought of Langston Hughes, a renowned black writer, poet, and director during the Harlem Renaissance. His creative and unique poems aided in shaping the reforms towards discrimination and equality. I had always tried to create my own unique type of writing, but I never knew how to properly approach my goal. That's when I was introduced to the different lessons invented by Mr. Weinstein.
I have always taken a huge interest and passion for writing poetry and short stories even before I started high school. For me, writing provides an opportunity to personally articulate my frustrating struggles, passion, and creative ideas for stories. I like shaping my own writing in a way that allows me to feel comfortable with my unorthodox style. Sure, I understood all the procedures for properly writing a report and a research paper, but that doesn't allow me to freely write the way I want to. Where is the personally creative process in preparing a paper? I believe that there isn't a genuine interest in writing if it isn't creative in each's own unique way. Writing should be a showcase of the released thoughts and put into the stream of memories, experiences, and goals.
After a year of English 11 with Mr. Weinstein, I regained the confidence of my ability to "write." I made it a "to-do" to define what Creative Writing honestly means to me and attempted to reflect specific memories into words. I'm not sure if i can ever capture the true atmosphere and feelings with words, but the lessons I've learned so far have numerously helped. I appreciate the lessons and commitment so far and will continue to work on fine-tuning my work. Thank you Mr. Weinstien for genuinely caring about his students and especially to me.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Su
